Why Creative Integrity is the New Currency
Beyond the follower count... "It’s reframing influence as opportunity.”
In an industry that often feels “omnipresent” and “always on,” it is incredibly easy for creators and founders to get lost in the noise. We are taught to chase vanity metrics… It seems to all be about the followers, the likes, and the engagement.
Sometimes they feel like the only markers of success. But as the creator economy evolves and becomes more saturated, those numbers are becoming less important than the substance behind them.
During a recent conversation on The Ideas Machine, Rea Averil, founder of HOUSE Talent, shared a perspective that every creative needs to hear: real influence is derived from creative integrity.
The Trap of “More is More”
We live in a “more is more” kind of industry where the pressure to post constantly can feel like an obligation. Many creators feel compelled to jump on every trend just because they think it will serve them in the future. However, Rea argues that the real skill is being able to “sit back from all the noise on social, distance yourself slightly, and be able to take inspiration from a distance.”
Reframing the Goal
If you want to survive the volatility of this industry, you have to shift your mindset. Rea suggests reframing the word “influence” as “opportunity.”
Instead of asking “How many likes am I getting?”, start asking:
What do I actually want to achieve with this platform?
How can I use this space to expand my professional opportunities?
Is the content I’m creating uniquely mine, in my own voice and style?
The Credible Creator
What sets a “good” creator apart from a “credible” one is the ability to maintain a consistent niche and a professional focus. Whether you are an interior designer, an upholsterer, or a musician, having credibility behind your creativity allows you to build a platform that stands the test of time.
At HOUSE Talent, they focus on representing creative professionals who are thoughtful and considered in their approach, whether they are working on a paid brand campaign or posting organic content. This focus on integrity over intensity is what ultimately leads to long-term success.
How are you using your platform today? Is it to chase a number, or to build an opportunity?
