Think in a pitch deck
Pitch decks allow us to tell good stories and help us to unravel stories within our own head. Today I share how I think like a pitch deck to solve problems.
Ideate
Life can be unpredictable and hectic, and as I touched on in a previous post, we have real power to view our world differently if we consciously choose to. The question is, if we want to view the world around us differently, more positively than before, how do we do that?
While there isn’t just one way to do this, something I’ve found really helpful is thinking of problems like a pitch deck. What is a pitch deck? How can you think like a pitch deck? Why would you even want to?
Bear with me, I’ll tell you everything.
Iterate
Think of a pitch deck like a deck of cards. Playing cards run in a sequence and even if they are out of order, there is no misunderstanding what I mean when I say “six of hearts”.
Pitch decks allow you to break down ideas into bite size chunks and articulate your thoughts in a logical, linear way. Like a deck of cards, the purpose is to be so clear with each “card” that there is no misunderstanding.
We can use pitch decks for all sorts of things in high-end businesses but I find them particularly helpful to process situations and emotions. By visually walking you through problems or ideas step by step, it can be easier to gain clarity or a new perspective from within difficult circumstances.
The next time you have an issue, try to summarise the problem into ten or less slides or cards. You can use paper, presentation software such as Google Sheets, or even sticky notes. Break the problem down from how it began to now in linear chunks as if you were telling a stranger the story.
Present it back to yourself and re-edit it as many times as you need to in order to make it as smooth, clear and simple as possible.
Remember, this is as much about problem expression as it is about problem solution, but give it a go and see if you can make out the key themes or issues within the deck. For me, this allows me to see what is actually an issue rather than what I believe the key issues might be.
When we can identify problems, it makes it far easier to identify solutions and implement them to see lasting positive change and outcomes.
Implement
🧠 Do you have something happening at the moment? Try using a pitch deck to process it!
🧠 Have you tried thinking like a pitch deck before?
🧠 How can you implement logical thinking through emotional situations more?
