Scaling without sacrificing social impact
Why your social capital is relevant to your businesses success
Not naming any names… but we all know someone who is a lovely person, and then they tried to grow their business. Their usual calm demeanour is married with talks of return on investment, productivity and “synergies”. Does everyone who grows a business go through this phase (I definitely did HA! See images of my first ‘growth’ planning, on pen and paper below)? Maybe, but here’s how you can skip a stage, and instead grow your business while supporting your social impact.
Ideate
What even is social impact, social capital or SROI? To sum it all up, all of these phrases and acronyms mean that you are a business who cares about people as much as you care about profit.
Why is this important to me, and why should it be important to you?
Because businesses are made of people, for people and by people. Without getting too existential about it (we can save that for another post!), you have an opportunity to help others when you own your own business -according to Kant you have a duty to use that opportunity for good!
Iterate
In today’s short TIM, I’m outsourcing to some interesting articles where others have done the iterating for you! Check out the links below for ways your business can make a positive social impact, what it means to have a positive social impact and measuring SROI.
Here is a good post from Croner-i, giving you the low down on what is social impact anyway?
I love this article from Cove Collective, giving you 5 ways your business can make a positive social impact.
A brilliant article from PWC, giving you everything you need to know about SROI, social capital, and how to place its value in your business.
Implement
