Founder Syndrome
So many ideas, not enough time and always changing my mind… Is it a founder trait or maybe a creative one? How can you balance creativity with consistency in business?
Ideate
My business, a creative agency based in London, has changed a lot in the last two years since it started. Originally what started as Helena Traill Design Ltd, slowly evolved into what I now know as nooh Studio.
I like change, it fuels my creativity. But there is only a certain amount that can be done in public. Building in public is a risk and a method I admire (it’s where startups are super honest and open about what they are building and they even share monthly targets and money things). However, I found that it sometimes confused my audience and customers when done through my business.
Iterate
The penny dropped earlier this year.
nooh Studio is a proper business, with a plan, growth trajectory and targets to hit (KPIs and all that jazz)
Helena Traill is a personal brand that can do whatever it wants
I feel like this way of thinking has been the mature iteration of my business life so far. We know what my start-up does, what it’s good at and where it’s going. And then I can be messy, neurodivergent and full of ideas, but separate from the business.
