Ideate
I always associated confidence with the ability to say no, but recently, I’ve realised for me it’s more about putting yourself out there with no fear. Being resilient and going for it, without the concern of what others might say, think or do.
In fact, this is how I started my business. There were so many Facebook posts and LinkedIn posts where I just decided to post it even if I didn’t think anyone would like it. I put myself in an uncomfortable position but was open to the opportunity, feedback and critique I might receive… 4 years later… I now run a design agency and have more confidence than before (the power jackets help!).

The word confidence comes from the Latin word “Confidere'' which means to have full trust. If you're an entrepreneur like me, what this really translates to is “have full trust in yourself”. Trust that you create excellent work, trust that your time is worth the value you set for it, the trust that you really are smart even if you think you look stupid and the trust that no matter what happens that you will deal with it and learn from it. This is really what confidence is.
Confidence might mean different things to different people. Find what makes you feel a little anxious, then feel the fear and do it anyway; grow your confidence through fighting your fear head on.
For me, less thinking about doing something and more action has been key. Not to sound like Nike, but quite literally, just do it. The more action I have done, the more I have realised there was nothing to fear and the less “scary” it became to action something in the first place.
So, ask the stupid question! Post the video of your latest dance online, share your art with the world and write book after book. Keep practising, keep building trust in yourself and build that confidence.
